Welcome to Listen to Your Soul, đ⨠the podcast where we dive into self-discovery, intuition, personal growth, and the magic of living in alignment with your soulâs true purpose.
In this episode, weâll be exploring the powerful concept of authenticity – what it means to embody your true self, why so many of us struggle to express it fully, and how we can overcome fear and judgment along the way. If youâre ready to shed the layers of conditioning and step into your truth, this is for you.
What Does It Mean to Be Authentic?
Authenticity is often used as a buzzword these days, but what does it actually mean to live authentically? Itâs not just about being honest or transparent – it goes much deeper. Authenticity, in its simplest form, is about living in alignment with your deepest truth. Itâs when your inner world matches your outer expression. When your actions, words, and choices come from your true self – not from fear or external pressure, but from who you truly are.
The truth is, most of us werenât taught how to be authentic. Since childhood, weâve been conditioned to mould ourselves to fit in, be liked, and meet societal expectations. Weâre often told to say the right thing, hold back parts of ourselves, or conform to what others think is acceptable. This conditioning disconnects us from our soulâs essence, leading to feelings of sadness, emptiness, and misalignment.
But when we disconnect from our authentic selves, we limit our potential and hold ourselves back from fully experiencing life. If youâre feeling like youâve been hiding behind a mask, I want you to know that youâre not alone. This is a journey weâre all on, and Iâm still working through it too. The path to authenticity isnât easy, but itâs incredibly rewarding.
Why Is It So Hard to Be Authentic?
So, why do so many of us struggle with living authentically? The biggest reason is fear. Fear of rejection, fear of failure, and fear of judgment. We worry about what others might think or whether weâll be accepted. The desire for external approval can make it hard to listen to our inner truth.
This struggle often connects to something called the âwitch woundâ an ancestral fear of being rejected or punished for stepping into our power. The witch wound causes many of us to dim our light and suppress our authentic selves, afraid of being judged or persecuted for being different. Itâs a deep-rooted fear that many of us carry unconsciously.
If you feel like youâre struggling with this wound, know that itâs possible to heal. There are resources and practices to help you work through this, and itâs an ongoing journey of shedding old fears and embracing your soulâs truth.
The Connection Between Authenticity and Soul Alignment
When we suppress our truth, we feel a sense of misalignment. We may feel drained, disconnected, or emotionally heavy, as if weâre not fully showing up for ourselves. But when we align with our authentic selves, things start to flow more easily. Opportunities come in alignment with our energy, our relationships deepen, and we experience a greater sense of inner peace.
When you embody your authentic self, you stop overthinking what you “should” be doing. Instead, you start moving toward what feels right for you. Authenticity and intuition go hand-in-hand. When you align with your truth, your intuition becomes clearer, guiding you to make decisions that support your soulâs path.
How to Live More Authentically
Here are some powerful practices to help you start living more authentically:
- Reconnect with Your Inner Knowing: Spend time in reflection, journaling, or meditation. You can even record your thoughts in a voice memo. Find the practice that works for you, and use it to tune into what feels true for you.
- Notice Where Youâre Hiding: Ask yourself, âWhere am I playing small? Where am I holding back?â Often, we donât realise when weâre dimming our light. It can be helpful to ask a close friend to reflect back to you where they see you holding back, as others may notice what we canât see ourselves.
- Start Speaking Your Truth: Begin speaking up in conversations, even in small ways. You donât have to make drastic changes overnight, but start by saying no when something doesnât feel aligned, or sharing your thoughts and feelings with others in a kind way.
- Trust Your Energy: Pay attention to how you feel in different situations. Does something expand you, or does it drain you? Your energy will tell you when youâre in alignment and when youâre out of alignment. Tap into that guidance.
- Surround Yourself with Your People: Find a supportive community of people who see you for who you truly are. These are the people who will cheer you on and encourage you to be your authentic self. Theyâll uplift you, not judge you. Surround yourself with those who see your true worth.
Navigating Fear and Judgment
One of the biggest blocks to authenticity is the fear of judgment. This fear can paralyse us, or at the very least, hold us back from fully showing up in our truth. But hereâs what I want you to remember: people will always have opinions about you, whether you like it or not. The real question is, are you going to let their opinions shape your life, or will you step into your truth anyway?
Iâve been through this myself. I used to hide behind my work, behind logos, afraid to put myself out there. Even now, I still feel uncomfortable with visibility and have moments of doubt. But Iâve learned to push through that resistance, because I know the work Iâm doing is bigger than me. Itâs about helping others step into their authenticity too.
The more you practice authenticity, the easier it gets. With time, youâll need less external validation, and youâll begin to trust yourself more. Your soul already knows the way; you just have to listen.
A Soulful Challenge for You
If youâre up for it, I invite you to take one small step toward living more authentically. It might be speaking your truth in a conversation, making a decision that feels aligned with your heart, or creating a boundary with kindness. Whatever it is, take that step toward being your authentic self.
Remember, the world doesnât need a version of you that fits in. It needs the real you – the you who shows up fully and unapologetically. When you show up authentically, you create space for others to do the same. Your energy will inspire others to embrace their truth too. So, walk in your truth and watch the magic unfold, not just in your life but in the lives of those around you.
Remember, your authentic self is exactly what the world needs.
